Constant in a changing worldPosted on: 9th July 2014
THE motor industry has transformed in the 25 years since Richard Reynolds, General Manager of Broad Green in Peugeot in Wellingborough started his career.
One thing has remained constant – Richard still has the same passion for the trade he had a quarter of a century ago.
Richard had completed two years training to be an accountant on a Government-YTS scheme before realising his knack for sales could be put to good use in the motor industry.
His career has always been with the thriving Grosvenor Group starting off with Cooper Armstrong, one of the company’s dealerships in Kettering.
“I started off valeting and doing general things and after a few months moved on to sales,” said Richard, who has held his current post of General manager for more than six years.
He has progressed through the group, set up by Brian Johnson, with stints at Vauxhall dealerships York Ward Rowlatt and then Hamblins in Rushden. His next move was Croyland Car Megastore before transferring to the Broad Green dealership.
Richard is appreciative of the opportunities the group has given him with ongoing support from previous managers like Shaun Barritt, who is now the Grosvenor Group’s MD.
Richard said: “I have really enjoyed my career and, to be honest, there isn’t a day that goes by when I don’t want to go to work. I still enjoy the job.”
The relationship between the sales team and customers has changed over the years, with the Internet making a major impact. Richard said: “The salesman used to be there to provide information and help customers to decide but now people come along knowing what vehicle and model they are interested in.”
The change does bring its benefits with customers now buying online including one who sealed the deal and came over from Malta to drive back with the newly purchased car.
“It is testament to the dealership that our customers now come from such a wide area. I have been very fortunate to be able to play my part in the group and get such support over the years,” said Richard.

Employees at local Peugeot dealership, Broad Green Peugeot, in Wellingborough, embarked on a challenge of a life time, walking the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales to raise over £750 for the brand’s official charity partner, BBC Children in Need.
Three team members, John Robinson, master technician, Sam Beck and Dan Smith, both mechanics, were waved off by supporters at the dealership when they departed for the Three Peaks Challenge which took 27 hours in total to complete.
