Constant in a changing world

Posted on: 9th July 2014

THE motor industry has transformed in the 25 years since Richard Reynolds, General Manager of Broad Green in Peugeot in Wellingborough started his career.

One thing has remained constant – Richard still has the same passion for the trade he had a quarter of a century ago.

Richard had completed two years training to be an accountant on a Government-YTS scheme before realising his knack for sales could be put to good use in the motor industry.

His career has always been with the thriving Grosvenor Group starting off with Cooper Armstrong, one of the company’s dealerships in Kettering.

“I started off valeting and doing general things and after a few months moved on to sales,” said Richard, who has held his current post of General manager for more than six years.

He has progressed through the group, set up by Brian Johnson, with stints at Vauxhall dealerships York Ward Rowlatt and then Hamblins in Rushden. His next move was Croyland Car Megastore before transferring to the Broad Green dealership.

Richard is appreciative of the opportunities the group has given him with ongoing support from previous managers like Shaun Barritt, who is now the Grosvenor Group’s MD.

Richard said: “I have really enjoyed my career and, to be honest, there isn’t a day that goes by when I don’t want to go to work. I still enjoy the job.”

The relationship between the sales team and customers has changed over the years, with the Internet making a major impact. Richard said: “The salesman used to be there to provide information and help customers to decide but now people come along knowing what vehicle and model they are interested in.”

The change does bring its benefits with customers now buying online including one who sealed the deal and came over from Malta to drive back with the newly purchased car.

“It is testament to the dealership that our customers now come from such a wide area. I have been very fortunate to be able to play my part in the group and get such support over the years,” said Richard.

Former apprentice mechanic, Tim Adams, is celebrating after reaching the final of Peugeot’s Apprentice of the Year Awards.

Tim, who joined local Peugeot dealership Broad Green, in Wellingborough in 2009, is now recognised as one of top five apprentices from across the Peugeot network.

The awards ceremony was held at Peugeot’s Head Office, Pinley House, in Coventry.

Moutain Peak Challenge Raises over £750 for Charity

Posted on: 9th July 2012

Employees at local Peugeot dealership, Broad Green Peugeot, in Wellingborough, embarked on a challenge of a life time, walking the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales to raise over £750 for the brand’s official charity partner, BBC Children in Need.

Three team members, John Robinson, master technician, Sam Beck and Dan Smith, both mechanics, were waved off by supporters at the dealership when they departed for the Three Peaks Challenge which took 27 hours in total to complete.

The hikers did not let the wet weather dampen their spirits and all three managed to complete the 462 mile long walk, which involved hiking up Ben Nevis, Snowdon and Scafell Pike.

Commenting on the challenge, John said: “The walk was very tough at times but it was certainly a very rewarding event, raising much-needed funds for a worthwhile charity.

“This is just the start of our fundraising and we can’t wait to raise even more money for BBC Children in Need to help make a difference in our local community.”

Peugeot UK is an official charity partner of Children in Need. Broad Green Peugeot will be fundraising throughout 2012 to help Peugeot reach its target of £750,000 for the charity.

The dealership’s total has reached £1023 and contributions are still coming in. Donations can still be made by visiting the dealership based on St Johns Street. Alternatively, contact Richard Reynolds at the dealership on 01933 276 759.
